( BOISE) Idaho State Sen. Lee Heinrich (R-Cascade) has decided to run for re-election in District 8, he announced today.
“It is such a great honor to be serving Valley, Clearwater, Idaho and Lewis Counties,” Sen. Heinrich said. “I now have two sessions under my belt and I believe that makes me much more effective as a legislator.”
The freshman Senator is already vice-chair of the Agriculture Committee, and also serves on the Local Goverrnnent and Taxation and Transportation Committees. He serves on the prestigious Western Legislative Forestry Task Force, a multi-state organization that collects forest information while acting as a liaison to other legislators.
“I am giving local government a representative in the state that they possibly didn’t have before,” Heinrich asserts. “These committees I am a member of are vital for District 8. I will continue to aggressively pursue the needs of the four counties.”
Heinrich said he is proud of sponsoring the ‘Support Your Troops’ license plate legislation, a plate which is- now for sale. He said he will continue to fight for transportation funding that will be distributed to local highway jurisdictions.
“Our local government needs to share in any increases to the Idaho Transportation Department,” Sen. Heinrich said. “I will also fight for field burning legislation. Farmers need to know that we are on their side in the Senate.”
Heinrich is a former Valley County Clerk, retired after 16 years of service. He is married with five children and 11 grandchildren. Sen. Heinrich is a graduate of the University of Idaho.
